Vision Screening- On Friday February 10th Nursing Services will be offering distance vision screening for students of Athey Creek Middle School.  We will only be screening students whose parents have requested a screening. To request a screening please contact Brenda Hogan at Hoganb@wlwv.k12.or.us or at 503-673-7041. The deadline to request a screening is Wednesday, February 8th.

A BIG thank you to all the families that have provided food for the TASA luncheons.  They have been delicious.  We are, however, acquiring quite a selection of serving plates, serving utensils, pyrex ware, baskets, etc. in which food was brought to the school.  If you are missing something, please feel free to stop by and take a look.  We have them laid out on a table in the staff room.

Information about the Parent Empowerment Program for parents.  This is a totally free parent education series for parents in our school district.  The third class of the series is offered this week … parents can still join the winter class this week. Parent Empowerment flyer – winter 2012

No afterschool activities at primary schools and middle schools.  All High school activities end at 5:00.

Please be aware that any time you keep your child home from school, even during late start days, we need you to call and excuse them through the school attendance line, 503-673-7425.

Cleaning out your old sports equipment?  We could use your basketballs, soccer balls, footballs for our recess supplies.  If you would like to donate we would be happy to accept them.

The WLHS Men’s and Women’s Basketball will be hosting an all-pink “Hoops For Hope” breast cancer awareness event to be held at our home games against Oregon City High School on Friday, January 20th. The home varsity teams will be wearing pink uniforms for the game, and players and coaches on all West Linn teams, as well as, players/coaches on the Oregon City teams and referees will be showing their support with various “shades of pink.” The games will also include fun halftime events and raffles.  All proceeds raised for the event will be donated directly to Breast Friends – a local nonprofit organization devoted to meeting the survival needs of a woman who has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Beginners Lacrosse Clinic Wilsonville Lacrosse is giving boys grades 3-8 the opportunity to try lacrosse for the first time for FREE prior to committing to the spring season. This clinic will be led by Wilsonville High School Coaches and all equipment needed to play will be offered by Gear Up Sports.  Who: Boys Grades 3-8 in the Wilsonville School District.  Where: Randall Stadium Turf Field @ Wilsonville High School.  When: Saturday January 21, 2012 10am-Noon (please arrive no later than 9:30am to be fitted for equipment and to sign a waiver.)  What to bring: wear comfortable sports clothes and cleats!  Coaches and staff from the Wilsonville Lacrosse Foundation will be on hand to answer all parent questions.  For more information please email wilsonvillelacrosse@gmail.com

THANK YOU from the WLWV Education Foundation – Thanks to tremendous district-wide support, the West Linn-Wilsonville Education Foundation is pleased to announce the success of its 2011 H.O.T. Honor Our Teachers Holiday Gift Campaign.  Over $25,000 was donated in honor of more than 400 teachers and other educators.  These honored teachers received gift-wrapped letters and certificates notifying them of this special recognition from their students and families in the community.

Volunteers needed:  We find we have a need for adult supervision in the study center before school, Monday through Friday from 8am to 9am.  If you can volunteer regularly or even just once we can use your help.  Please contact Ms. Liden in the office, lidenj@wlwv.k12.or.us, for more information or to sign up.

Athey Creek is collecting non-perishable breakfast food items. All items will be given to students at Athey Creek who have not had breakfast. If you would like to donate breakfast food (such as granola bars, cereal bars, trail mix, or 100% juice boxes) please bring your donations to the box in the office. We especially need juice!  Thank you.

The Giving Tree is here! Each year the Athey Creek student council runs a collection drive for a charity organization during the month of Dec. This year, the students chose The Oregon Humane Society AND Morrison Child and Family Services to help people and animals!  If you are interested in participating, please visit the Giving Tree in the office to choose a gift tag. Return your NEW, UNWRAPPED gifts to the office by Dec. 14th! Thank you!

Honor Our Teachers Fundraising Campaign:  honor-our-teachers  What is the H.O.T. holiday gift for teachers this year?  A donation in their honor to the West Linn-Wilsonville Education Foundation!  By making an “Honor Our Teachers” donation to the WLWV Education Foundation, your child’s teacher will receive a letter stating that a donation has been made on their behalf, as well as a certificate to post in their classroom.  All funds donated to the Foundation during this campaign will be INCLUDED IN THE FOUNDATION’S ANNUAL GIFT to the West Linn-Wilsonville School District for the express purpose of maximizing the number of teaching positions and thereby reducing class sizes for the 2012-13 school year.  WITH YOUR HELP, WE GAVE $150,000 TO THE DISTRICT FOR THE 2011-12 SCHOOL YEAR BUDGET!
